Lack of Sleep shows how the individual can become virtually a zombie, lacking the energy to do anything. At this point even merely interacting with another person can take a toll on them. Where the individual was once energetic and able to function, they find themselves slipping further into a haze where days begin to blur together due to a faulty sleep schedule. Even the smallest activities can be exhausting.

The first piece is called Lack of Interest, meant to show how one can suddenly no longer find pleasure in things they used to. Instead, they find themselves frustrated and feeling a bit lost, as if the activity in question is suddenly foreign though it is supposed to be familiar. Their minds are so preoccupied that they cannot enjoy their own hobbies.

While it is currently untitled, the following images are a part of a series that I chose to do on the subject of depression. It is meant to show a few of what I like to call ‘textbook symptoms’ of what an individual with depression may experience.

Depression is an ugly thing, and a disease of the mind that can pull anyone into the darkest corners of their minds. A lot of those that suffer from it are often told to snap out of it, but what the accusers don’t realize is that it is more complicated than that. The behaviors are ingrained into the individual, often unconscious and automatic. If the choice to ‘snap out of it’ was so easy, I can say with confidence that no person would choose to be depressed. It can take any individual and kill them slowly until they feel empty as if life has been sucked out of them.

Each piece is 6”x6” and is rendered in ink.
